Tecno is set to launch the Spark 40 Pro and Spark 40 Pro Plus in Ghana in July 2025. These two budget-friendly phones (GHS 1,900 and GHS 2,200) offer improved features, a slim design, and better performance compared to earlier models like the Spark 30 series.

Here’s a breakdown of their design, build, camera, processor, performance, battery, price, and features to help you understand what these devices bring to the table.

Pricing and Pre-order

In Ghana, Tecno announced pre-order deals for the Spark 40 Pro and Pro Plus. A deposit of GHS 79 for the Pro offers GHS 150 off, while a GHS 149 deposit for the Pro Plus gives GHS 250 off.

  • SPARK 40 PRO – GHS 1,899
  • SPARK 40 PRO PLUS – GHS 2,210 (128GB), GHS 2,540 (256GB)

Design

The Tecno Spark 40 Pro and 40 Pro Plus feature a sleek, modern look. Both phones have flat edges and a slim profile, making them comfortable to hold and easy to carry.

The back panel has a matte finish, which reduces fingerprints compared to glossy designs. A rectangular camera module sits vertically on the back, housing the lenses and an LED flash.

The Spark 40 Pro Plus, in particular, stands out with a premium aesthetic, as seen in promotional images. These phones are designed to feel stylish yet practical for everyday use.

The Spark 40 Pro is available in Lake Blue, Bamboo Green, Moon Titanium and Ink Black.

The Spark 40 Pro+ comes in Aurora White, Tundra Green, Moon Titanium and Nebula Black.

Display

Both phones run Android 15 with Tecno’s HiOS 15, an upgrade from the Spark 30’s Android 14 and HiOS 14.5. They include AI features like Ella, Tecno’s assistant, for tasks like content summarization.

The Spark 40 Pro features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, while the Pro Plus offers a 1.5K resolution display for sharp visuals. Both support dual SIM, 4G, Wi-Fi 5, NFC, and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, enhancing audio for music and calls.

Camera

The Spark 40 Pro features a dual rear camera with a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP secondary lens, paired with a 13MP front camera for selfies. The Spark 40 Pro Plus steps it up with a 108MP main rear camera and a 0.08MP depth sensor, plus a 32MP front camera. These cameras are great for clear photos and social media, with improvements over the Spark 30 Pro’s 108MP setup due to better software processing.

Processor

The Spark 40 Pro uses the MediaTek Helio G100 chipset, while the Spark 40 Pro Plus is the first phone to feature the new Helio G200 chipset, built on a 6nm process for efficiency.

Tecno’s DCSAR improves network connection in weak signal areas.

Nerd notes: – The Helio G200 has two high-performance Cortex-A76 cores at 2.2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz, scoring around 470,000 on AnTuTu, a 10% boost over the Helio G99 in the Spark 30 series. The Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, clocked at 1.1GHz in the Pro Plus, enhances gaming and app performance compared to the Spark 30’s GPU.

These processors handle daily tasks like browsing and streaming smoothly.

Both phones offer strong performance for their price. They come with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage, plus 8GB of virtual RAM for multitasking. The Helio G200 in the Pro Plus supports DCSAR (Dynamic Communication Smart Adaptive Response), improving data speeds in weak signal areas especially for social media and messaging apps.

Battery

The Spark 40 Pro Plus has a 5200mAh battery with 45W fast charging, while the Spark 40 Pro has a 5160mAh battery with the same 45W charging speed. Both can last a full day of use and support fast charging.

Compared to the Spark 30 Pro’s 5000mAh battery with 33W charging, the Spark 40 Pro and Pro+ offer quicker charging times.
