Should You Use a Blue Light Filter on Your Phone

Smartphones, laptops, and tablets give off blue light that stimulate the brain. That’s good during the day, but exposure at night can be detrimental.
Continuous exposure to blue light can:
- Disrupt your natural sleep cycle
- Cause digital eye strain
- Trigger headaches
Modern devices often include blue light filters, which adjust the screen’s colors to warmer tones, decreasing eye strain and signaling your body to relax.
How to Enable Blue Light Filter
Most Android phones have a blue light filtering feature.
To enable this feature
- Swipe down the quick panel and find a ‘Night Mode’ or ‘Eye care/comfort’ option
- Or go to Settings > Display > Blue Light/Night mode
For some devices you can set a custom schedule to automatically turn on the blue light filter at a time of your choosing
For iOS devices, Apple includes a built-in Night Shift feature which you can enable:
- Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift
- for Mac: System Settings > Displays > Night Shift
Computers and Laptops
for PCs:
- Go to Settings > System > Display > Night Light
You can adjust the warmth to your preference.
