5 Social Media Predictions for 2020 + Bonus!

The past decade has seen many different trends, integrations and changes in social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat etc).
2020 promises to be a big year for tech, social media and online marketing in general. In this post, I look at what to expect in the social media and digital marketing space in 2020
1. TikTok – The Next Big Thing?
With TikTok gaining a lot of attention lately, social media marketers will be looking to invest more in the video-service. With over 14.3 downloads in 2019, the app will be a sure marketing target in 2020.
The app launched by Chinese developer ByteDance in 2016 has more than 500 million users and over one million video views every day. With the bulk of its users being the younger audience. A lot of brands are likely to jump on the ‘TikTok train’
2. IGTV
You may have watched a few things on IGTV, (probably when a video on your feed runs too long and you can only watch the rest by going there). My thoughts are that IGTV will get bigger with a focus on originals gearing towards educational content. This may just be the ideal place to share with your customers everything they need to know about topics such as tips and tricks in your niche, how-to’s and hacks for say makeup application or some other cosmetic usage.
3. More and More Podcasts

Podcasts have been big in recent years. and this doesn’t look to decline anytime soon. Audio
content that can keep the attention of its audience for longer periods will be prioritised.
Creating podcasts will be a trend but to decide if it is a good choice for your business or brand will depend on your resources (recording, editing equipment, time etc). If your brand or business cannot go into full podcast creation, look at sponsoring or advertising on an already created podcast.
4. Micro-influencer Partnerships
Despite Instagram hiding its like count more local brands will be partnering with micro-influencers.
Brands and business must seek new and creative ways to partner with influencers to increase their online presence and brand awareness.
5. Safer Social Media
With platforms like Facebook and Instagram getting rid of likes and introducing new features to fight cyberbullying, improve mental health and decrease social media addiction this will help make social media platforms relatively safer in 2020.
BONUS: The Rise of AR (Augmented Reality)
As our world evolves, so does technology. AR has been talked about a lot in recent times with Snapchat being famous for implementing it in their service.

1) Add DMCA Protection to your site.
2) Disable ‘copy’ option on your content
3) Ask the offenders to takedown the duplicate content.
