5 Book Recommendations From BILL GATES

I always like to pick out a bunch of books to bring with me whenever I get ready to go on vacation. More often than not, I end up taking more books than I could possibly read on one trip. My philosophy is that I’d rather have too much to read on a trip than too little.

1. A Gentleman In MoscowAmor towels

According to Bill Gates, A gentleman in Moscow is just so clever. There is a lot of allusions to Russian literature and history. He believes that it’s an amazing story because it manages to be a bit of everything

He further adds it’s a fantastical romance. But it’s kind of the real world too.

I personally loved this book. The book is undoubtedly for all types of readers as this book is witty and insightful. This has such a remarkable narrative and a charming character. You should definitely give this a read.

2. Presidents Of WarMichael Beschloss

Bill Gates says, “The public really does not want to go to war. But then, are we willing to defend our honour? It means that having a good president is very important. You better hope that you have some good leaders when you get in the war”.

This book is not like most of the books. It brings a fresh and intimate look at a procession of American readers. If you are a heavy reader, you will love the way Michael Beschloss has written it and the way he tried to deliver a deep message through his vision.

3. The Future of CapitalismPaul Collier

There’s a crisis for capitalism. Individualism has been taken too far. The writer introduces this notion of a ethical family, an ethical company, and an ethical government. We have to be loyal to something, we have to have a group thing where we’re not just out for ourselves.” says Gates.

If you know Paul Collier, you know he hardly disappoints his readers. Having said that, this book is worth a read.

4. UpheavalJared Diamond

“He took examples of countries that actually dealt with a problem and come out of it better off. He uses kind of a psychological framework. It actually works pretty well. He doesn’t force you to have a negative or positive point of view. Will it work for what the U.S is facing in terms of polarization. And just even by raising the question, he admits the possibility that we’ll solve these problems”

Gates said while mentioning about this book.

Gates also added, “I feel very lucky to work with my wife, and not just because I get to spend extra time with her. Melinda’s way of looking at the world makes me better at my job.

Jared Diamond says he owes the idea for his new book Upheaval to his wife, Marie Cohen, who’s a psychologist. Jared is already a polymath and usually blends anthropology and history.

In Upheaval, though, he reminds us that some countries have creatively solved their biggest problems. Jared doesn’t go so far as to predict that we’ll successfully address our most serious challenges, but he shows that there’s a path through crisis and that we can choose to take it”.

5. Nine PintsRose George

Bill gates on this book –

She mostly wants to educate you about blood and what an important and interesting history there has been about it. The history of the blood supply, the different ways of gathering blood. Things like leeches where their ability to suck blood out is advantageous. I’m sure people will find that fascinating. Blood is so magical. It’s an interesting thing to know about.”

Out of all these 5 books, this one is my favourite. The whole genre of the book is so youthful and different. If you are an experimental reader like me, You’ll love this book.
