17-year-old implicated in ‘high-level’ Twitter Bitcoin Scam

Three persons have been arrested following investigations into the Twitter Bitcoin hack that happened recently.
17-year-old Graham Ivan Clark, who appears to be the mastermind of the ‘Bitcoin scam’, was arrested on Friday in Florida and currently faces 30 felony charges.

The State Attorney’s Office in Hillsborough County says Clark is liable to financial fraud charges for the July 15 hack, which saw over 100 Twitter accounts including those of Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Barack Obama and Kim Kardashian tweeting out a request asking users to send $1,000 to a Bitcoin address in the hopes of receiving double the amount sent.

19-year-old Mason Sheppard and 22-year-old Nima Fazeli also face charges for their roles in the security breach.
‘Spear-phishing attack’
The scam reportedly raked in over $100,000 in Bitcoin. Twitter says the hackers tricked its employees into handing over high-level administrative credentials over the phone in a targeted attack, which allowed the hackers to focus on other Twitter employees with access to account support tools and ultimately tweet from the celebs’ accounts.
