Get vaccinated or get fired

Google is enforcing it’s vaccination policy – which says all employees should either get their COVID shots or risk losing their jobs.

Looking back at 2021

Samsung

  • Samsung launched Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 which appealed to the masses, will they become your typical mainstream phones in 2022? We can only wait to find out.

iPhone/iOS

  • In September Apple launched the iPhone 13 (Mini, Pro and Pro Max) with a bunch of exciting features including ProRes and cinematic mode.
  • iOS/iPadOS/MacOS 15 got released with Focus mode, redesigns to Safari, Notes and the weather app plus SharePlay which allows you to listen to music and watch movies with friends via FaceTime.

Google Pixel

  • Google released the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, two powerhouses that will run on Android 12 and Google’s Tensor chipset.

Cryptocurrency

  • El Salvador’s president announced that bitcoin has been accepted as the official currency for the Central American state.
  • Arguably the biggest buzzword in tech now. NFTs are taking over the world… literally (got me thinking about releasing my cyberpunk).

Big Tech

  • Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp now have a new parent company called Meta (formerly Facebook).
  • Zuckerberg’s is still on course to create a metaverse – a virtual reality world at your fingertips and VR headsets.
  • Now Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey stepped down from his post to focus on other projects including his financial services company called Block (formerly Square).
  • Instagram announced that it had merged IGTV and in-feed videos into a brand new format called Instagram TV, essentially discontinuing IGTV as a standalone format.
  • UFC, the world’s leading mixed martial art organization and TikTok agreed to a content deal for exclusive UFC live events, weekly shows, weigh-ins, press conferences, fighter interviews and more.

Tech in Ghana

  • Drone technology is used to distribute COVAX vaccines to remote areas.
  • Bank of Ghana reveals its plans to launch a digital cedi (e-Cedi).
  • Glovo invests 3.5m euros into its operation in Ghana.
  • Gov’t of Ghana continues digitalization efforts by giving every house a digital address.
  • Gov’t of Ghana proposes an E-levy on Mobile money transactions.
