Hot or Cold?: Samsung Galaxy S23 Pros and Cons
On February 1, Samsung debuted the Galaxy S23 series at its Unpacked event.
This post will explore the device’s strongest features (Hot) as well as their less favourable aspects (Cold).
Hot
The Hot section highlights the beautiful parts of the device including upgrades and useful features.
Processor
The Galaxy S23 series have the latest and most powerful Android processor of the year – Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Meaning the speed of this device is going to be next to flawless.
Camera
Galaxy S23 Ultra has a 200MP main camera which is bigger compared to S22 Utra’s 108MP camera. Although the number of megapixels does not always tell the full story of how good a phone’s camera is, Samsung employs binning technology to ensure that the final image is of the highest quality. This is the ‘biggest’ camera yet on a Samsung device.
Security
Maintenance mode is a privacy setting introduced in OneUI 5 that helps keep your data safe when you send your phone to a repair shop. When it is enabled, the repairer will not be able to access your personal data.
This security setting is available on the Galaxy S23 series, giving you the confidence that your private files are safe even when your phone is away from you.
Battery
Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus received upgrades to their battery capacities as compared to their predecessors.
Durability
The screen of the S23 series is made from Gorilla Victus 2 glass which is designed to withstand drops on rougher surfaces, like concrete.
Colours
Samsung went for more toned-down, lighter-shade colours with the S23. Black, Green, Purple and Cream are the options you can choose from.
Cold
Cold highlights the not-so-great parts of the device you should look out for.
Camera
Samsung maintained the 50MP primary camera on the S23 and S23 Plus, the same as for their respective S22 models. Even with the same lens, comparison photos will help you make a more robust conclusion.
RAM
Only the S23 Ultra has a 12GB option. Both the S23 and S23 Plus are capped at 8GB. Hopefully, in the next model, Samsung can extend higher RAM to the non-Ultra models.
