Everything you Need to know about MoMoCard: MTN Virtual card

In February, MTN entered into a partnership with Mastercard, to introduce virtual MoMo cards to select regions across Africa.

The MoMoCard, is currently being rolled out in over 10 African countries, with plans for expansion into many more countries in the future.

Some of the countries where the MoMo card will be in use include Cameroon, Uganda, Nigeria, and Cote d’Ivoire.

What is MTN MoMoCard?

MoMoCard is a virtual card serves as an extension of your Mobile Money (wallet).

The MoMoCard enables you to make transactions over the internet for services that do not support Mobile Money at the moment.

The primary purpose of the MTN MoMocard is to provide MoMo users with swift access to their mobile money funds for online transactions.

What does MoMoCard do?

  • Universal Access: MoMo virtual card users can access their funds online, anytime, and from anywhere, enabling them to make purchases and pay for subscriptions and bills conveniently.
  • Integration with Popular Services: The MoMocard can be integrated with widely used payment platforms such as PayPal.
  • Widely accepted: Being associated with Mastercard, the MoMocard enjoys universal acceptance in over 200 countries.

Users can use their MoMo card to make payments for subscriptions, fees, or flight bookings without requiring a debit card from a traditional bank.

Safeguard your MoMoCard

Ensuring the security of your MoMo card just as important as your bank/ATM card.

Here are some steps to safeguard your MoMocard:

  • Keep your card number and Card Verification Value (CVV) confidential. Do not share them with anyone.
  • Avoid using easily guessable PINs such as sequential numbers (like 1234 or 0000) or personal details like your date of birth.
  • When entering your card detail on in public, ensure that your screen is not visible to others.

Always log out and remove your card details after using a public computer.

MoMoCard in Ghana

The MoMo virtual card is expected to launch in Ghana in the second quarter, and being functional by the third quarter.

For Ghanaians, MoMocard can serve various purposes, from shopping and traveling to facilitating business transactions.
