How to Disable iOS 17 Standby Mode on iPhone

Apple iPhone in standby mode while charging

Every year at Apple’s WWDC (Word Wide Developer Conference), the company unveils the latest updates for its operating systems (iOS) along with a bunch of hardware.

This year, the spotlight was on iOS 17, and one standout feature was the Standby mode

iPhone XS Max and newer iPhones can update their software to iOS 17 in order to access this feature.

What is Standby Mode

Standby mode, as its name implies, is activated when you place your iPhone in a landscape orientation while it is charging.

The feature transforms your iPhone into a smart display, providing a wealth of information at a glance.

When activated, Standby mode showcases essential details such as the time, weather updates, calendar and more.

On top of that, you can enjoy a slideshow of your favourite pictures, adding a personal touch to your device while in an idle state.

Standby mode is compatible with several apps like Siri – this allows you to view live activities without having to unlock your device.

In situations where low light is detected, Standby mode adjusts the screen to emit a subtle red tone, preventing any bright lights that may disturb you.

Similar to Lock Screen, Standby mode supports multiple widget screens allowing you to customize them to suit your preferences.

How to Disable Standby Mode

Standby mode sounds exciting, but if you are tired of having your iPhone go into Standby mode here’s a way to deactivate it.

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  •  Scroll down and tap StandBy
  •  Turn off StandBy mode

By following these steps, your iPhone will no longer enter StandBy mode when it’s idle.
