ByteDance (owners of TikTok) has introduced a new ‘Youth Mode’ for its social media app Douyin. All users under the age of 14 will automatically be logged in to this mode, which limits their usage time to 40 minutes per day.
Children under 14 will only be able to access the app during specific hours (from 6 am until 10 pm) each day.
A few weeks ago, China enforced a rule that restricts anyone under the age of 18 to one hour of gaming time each day.

In addition, China’s government is looking to regulate the algorithms that tech companies use to recommend videos and other content to ensure strict guidelines for content.
This is China’s way of improving the physical and emotional health of its young citizens amidst concerns of near-sightedness and video game addiction.
