Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE at its Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9, 2025, in Brooklyn, New York. The event, starting at 10 a.m. ET, will be livestreamed on Samsung’s website and YouTube channel.

In this post we’ll look at the rumours about the battery, durability, and EU energy ratings of the upcoming device.

Battery Life

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to feature a 4,300mAh battery, an upgrade from the Z Flip 6’s 4,000mAh. This improvement will mean that the device can last up to 42 hours on a single charge, as per EU energy labels.

The battery retains at least 80% of its capacity after 2,000 charge cycles, making it suitable for long term use without suffering significant battery decline.

The Z Flip 7 FE will have a smaller 4,000mAh battery lasting up to 37 hours and retaining 80% capacity after 1,700 cycles.

Nerd notes: A charge cycle is one full charge and discharge.

Both phones support 25W wired charging, which takes about 90 minutes for a full charge, though this is slower than competitors like the Motorola Razr Ultra 2025’s 68W charging.

Durability

Both Z Flip 7 and 7 FE have an IP48 rating, meaning they resist larger dust particles and water splashes up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. However, both phones earn a Class A rating for free-fall reliability, meaning they handle drops well despite their foldable design.

The hinge and foldable screen are designed for durability, with Samsung claiming up to 200,000 folds.

EU Energy Label Explained

Starting June 20, 2025, the EU requires smartphones to carry an European Product Registry for Energy Labelling (EPREL) sticker. This label shows:

  • Energy Efficiency: Rated A to G, with A being the most efficient. Both Z Flip 7 models are Class B.
  • Battery Endurance: Hours per charge (42 hours for Z Flip 7, 37 hours for Z Flip 7 FE).
  • Battery Longevity: Charge cycles before losing 20% capacity (2,000 for Z Flip 7, 1,700 for Z Flip 7 FE).
  • Durability: Free-fall reliability (Class A for both).
  • Repairability: Ease of repair (Class C for both, indicating moderate difficulty due to complex foldable designs).
  • IP Rating: Dust and water resistance (IP48 for both).

The label helps buyers choose sustainable, long-lasting devices. It also ensures manufacturers provide spare parts for seven years and software updates for five years.
