Glovo, an online food delivery service has announced its plans to shut down its services in Ghana, following a review of its investment efforts.

The company sent out an email to its partners about the decision.

While we recognise the potential of the Ghana market, building a stronger position in the market and achieving profitability would require substantial investment over an extended period of time.

As of May 10, 2024, the Glovo app will no longer be usable for making orders.

Glovo first began its operations in the country back in March 2021. By October, the company had announced its plans to invest €1.7 million in the coming year.

Three years later, the company now wishes to leave the Ghanaian market.

Cause of shutdown

All indicators point to Glovo losing out on profit, possibly from low volume of users and order or diminished growth from economic times.

The company will continue its operations in over 20 countries, including Ivory Coast, Nigeria, and Kenya.

Glovo’s departure leaves one less competitor in the food delivery industry as Ghanaians continue to embrace online delivery.
