Google I/O 2025 was one big AI party

Google’s I/O 2025 keynote just ended, and it went as many anticipated – with numerous AI announcements. Missed the live show? Here the highlights for you.

Google AI

  • AI Mode Hits Search for Everyone: Google’s rolling out AI Mode to all US users this week, and it’s a game-changer. This new search tab lets you chat with Gemini AI for answers to your searches. Come summer, Google will test deep search and new charts for finance and sports queries.
  • Gemini 2.5 Pro Gets Smarter: Gemini 2.5 Pro’s new Deep Think mode is built for tough math and coding questions, thinking through multiple angles before answering. It’s curently being tested in the background and is expected to be launched soon.
  • Gemini in Chrome: Starting May 21st, Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can use Gemini in Chrome to summarize pages or navigate sites. Later this year, this feature will let users summarize multiple tabs at once.
  • AI Shopping: Google is testing an AI try-on feature where you upload a photo to see how clothes look on you.
  • Imagen 4 and Veo 3: Google’s AI image generator, Imagen 4, is here, and it’s better at exporting images in square or landscape formats. Veo 3, which is the video generator, now syncs video and sound, while Veo 2 adds camera controls and object removal. These upgrades will come in handy content creators and editors.
  • Google Stitch: Google’s Stitch tool uses AI to build app interfaces from sketches, or screenshots.
  • Google Flow: Google’s new Flow app is straight-up cool. It uses Veo, Imagen, and Gemini to whip up eight-second video clips from text or images. You can even stitch clips together for longer videos with scene-builder tools.
  • $250 AI Plan: Google’s new AI Ultra plan goes for $250 a month, giving you access to their best AI models, higher limits, and an early look at Google’s future AI features.
  • Real-time translation: Google Meet’s new AI feature translates English to Spanish in real-time. It’s currently in testing and we can expect more languages in the future.

Hardware

  • Google Beam: Project Starline is now Google Beam. THe device will launch in collaboration with HP hardware with a light field display and six cameras. It’s goal is to make video calls feel like you’re sitting across from someone. Big companies like Duolingo and Salesforce are already signing up.
  • Project Aura: Google is teaming up with AR glasses manufacturer, Xreal for new smart glasses running Android XR and Gemini AI. Project Aura will feature cameras, mics, and a wide field-of-view.
