Huawei Unveils Mate XTs Tri-Fold Smartphone in China

Huawei has officially launched the Mate XTs, a tri-fold smartphone powered by the Kirin 9020 processor and HarmonyOS 5.

Design and Build Quality

The device weighs 298 grams and folds into three distinct modes: a 6.4-inch single screen, 7.9-inch dual-screen and a 10.2-inch triple screen.

These different screen modules allow user to browse and message, multitask and even have a display optimized for other productivity tasks.

The Mate XTs supports the M-Pencil 3, enabling new air gestures for swipe and navigation during presentations, page-turning gestures for e-books and slideshows as well as note-taking.

The tri-folding phone also boasts an OLED LTPO screen, P3 color gamut, and 1440Hz PWM dimming. Huawei uses Ultra-Tough Glass (UTG) and Newtonian Fluid layers in the Mate XTs to make them durable when folded in multiple directions.

The inclusion of the Tiangong dual-track hinge not only allows for smooth folding, but it also contributes to the device’s long-term resilience.

The Mate XTs comes in Red, Black, White and Purple leather-finish.

Performance

The new Kirin 9020 boasts 20–36% faster performance compared to the previous generation.

This boost directly enhances multitasking on the tri-fold display, allowing for for smooth app-switching and gaming.

HarmonyOS 5.1

The foldable is equipped with HarmonyOS 5.1, Huawei’s latest update. With Celia AI the phone is able to:

  • Plan trips, manage hotels, and split-screen itineraries
  • Real-time translation across apps and screens
  • Store, recall, and even convert notes into AI-generated podcasts
  • Access PC-level apps for editing and collaboration
  • Manage drag-and-drop tasks across multiple screens

Camera

The Mate XTs houses a quad-lens system in an octagon-shaped module featuring a 50MP main camera, 40MP ultra-wide camera, 12MP periscope telephoto and 1.5MP multi-spectral color sensor.

Zoom capabilities include 5.5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom, supported by advanced stabilization. For selfies, the device offers an 8MP ultra-wide front camera, optimized for video calls.

Battery and Charging

Huawei features a 5600mAh battery, paired with 66W fast charging, 50W wireless charging, 7.5W reverse wireless charging and 5W wired reverse charging.

The Huawei Mate XTs is available for pre-order and launches officially on September 12.
