After months of expectation, MTN Ghana has announced their eSIM service. This makes them just the second telco behind AirtelTigo to adopt this technology.
Existing MTN subscribers can have their numbers upgraded to the eSIM and new subscribers will have to visit an MTN centre to register for a subscription.
As a kind gesture, MTN is giving all new eSIM registrations a data bundle worth 10GB for free.
MTN Ghana has been at the front of many digital innovations in the country. One example being the first to adopt mobile money in the country.
How eSIM works
eSIMs are embedded in the devices that support them. This means that not all devices can have an eSIM.
New users can activate their eSIMs with the help of an MTN customer care agent.
Once your device is compatible, an eSIM account will be created for your to complete the process.
eSIM compatible phones
- iPhone XS, XS Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series
- Samsung Galaxy S20, S21 and S22 series
- Google Pixel 3 and newer
- Huawei P40, P40 Pro and Huawei Mate 40 Pro
You can confirm compatibility by dialing *#06#.
If your device is compatible, you will receive a barcode starting with ‘EID‘.
