OnePlus is making a folding phone

Recent news suggests that OnePlus will officially announce the Open on August 29, after it teased the foldable at its Cloud 11 event earlier this year.

The name “Open” for OnePlus’ foldable device is relatively new.

It’s widely believed that OnePlus considered replacing the previously rumoured name “V Fold” with “Open.” in order to move away from the conventional naming adopted by its competitors, such as Samsung’s Z Fold and Pixel Fold.

The OnePlus Open is expected to feature the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, a 4800mAh battery with 67W fast charging capabilities, and a triple rear camera module.

The display is expected to offer an impressive 7.8-inch folding display with a 120Hz refresh rate, accompanied by a 6.3-inch cover display.

The phone will come equipped with a 50MP primary camera and 48MP ultrawide lens, as well as a 64MP telephoto lens capable of 3x optical zoom.

The selfie camera on the cover display is expected to house a 20MP lens, while the larger folding will feature a 32MP selfie camera.

As we eagerly await the arrival of the OnePlus Open in August, it’s worth noting that OnePlus is also working on its own Flip-like phone.

With the OnePlus Open set to debut just a month after the release of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5, we’re in for an exciting period in the foldable smartphone market.
