Camon 30 Series shows that Tecno mean business
Tecno’s Camon Series has been known over the years as a choice midrange phone for buyers who want a high-end smartphone experience without breaking the bank.
The Camon 20 Pro 5G, from last year, for example, featured a Dimensity 8050 chipset delivering some of the best performance you will see at its price, an AMOLED display for crisp viewing, a 5000mAh battery to hold you down for at least a day, and a fancy 5-sided camera cutout housing its 64MP camera.
At launch, the Camon 20 Pro 5G sold for about GHS 3200, a steal for its price. This year, Tecno has raised the bar even higher with the release of the Camon 30 series.
This time, four new devices will be sold under the Camon banner: Camon 30, 30 5G, 30 Pro, and 30 Premier.
Interestingly, this time, Tecno has adopted a circular camera cutout for the Camon 30 series.
The series also has an infrared (IR) blaster, which you can use as a remote to control TVs, ACs, etc.
Across the board, improvements have been made to the camera, processor, and charging capacity, which we will look into further in this post.
Camon 30
Starting with the base models, Tecno offers two Camon 30 variants—a 4G one and another with 5G support.
The difference comes down to the processors. The Camon 30 4G features the Helio G99 chip, while the 5G variant has a Dimenisty 7020 processor.
If you have the budget, opt for the Camon 30 5G, as it has a superior processor that will benefit you in the long run.
Aside from the processor, the two models are similar regarding the core features.
They both share a 6.78-inch AMOLED display, a 50MP lens for the selfie and rear cameras, and a 5,000mAh battery with 70W wired charging support.
However, the gap in processor power makes the Camon 30 5G slightly better.
Camon 30 Pro
My favourite of the bunch, the Tecno Camon 30 Pro, features some decent upgrades compared to last year’s edition.
You get a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate—perfect for gaming and watching content—and a Dimensity 8200 chipset, which is an upgrade over the Camon 20 Pro’s 8050.
With a processor like this, you can expect a smooth device experience.
Also, playing high-end games with resource-intensive graphics should be fine if you’re a gamer.
The cameras include a Sony IMX890 50MP wide lens optimal for daytime and nighttime photos, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 2MP depth sensor. This is the first time Tecno has added an ultrawide lens to its Pro version, which further enhances the device’s appeal.
Having An ultrawide lens allows you to capture more subjects when taking wider end-to-end shots.
On the front is a 50MP lens with video recording support for up to 2K resolution at 30fps.
Tecno maintains a 5000mAh battery and 70W fast charging here, which is advertised to power the device from 0 to 100 in less than 60 minutes.
Tecno has also gone all in on storage and RAM, offering 256GB and 512GB models with 12GB of storage.
Camon 30 Premier
On paper, the Camon 30 Preimer is the best device among the lot. It follows other devices under the ‘Premier’ line to have the best camera specs of the Camon series.
True to that, you are treated to a triple camera setup featuring a 50MP wide with OIS, 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom and a 50MP ultrawide lens. The rear camera supports video shooting up to 4K at 30fps. On the front is a 50MP wide lens.
The Camon 30 Premier is 0.01 inches smaller than the previous two models. It has a 6.77-inch LTPO AMOLED display and Corning Gorilla Glass protection against accidental drops.
It also features the impressive Dimensity 8200 processor but with only one 512GB/12GB storage configuration.
The device features dual stereo speakers; however, lacking a 3.5mm headphone jack.
It features a 5,000mAh battery and has fast charging support. Although it’s a great device to purchase, the Camon 30 Premier lacks wireless and reverse wireless charging, which could be helpful for buyers.
The Camon 30 series is available in Basaltic dark, Salt white, and Emerald Lake Green colours.
