Tecno Camon 40 Series – How good is it?

Tecno has launched the Camon 40 series, featuring three models: Camon 40, Camon 40 Pro, and Camon 40 Premier.

The smartphone manufacturer announced the device on March 3, 2025, and it is expected to be released in the coming weeks. In this post we’ll look into the new features of each device in the series.

Camon 40 Premier

Display

Tecno didn’t hold back with the Camon 40 Premier’s display. It features a 6.67-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and 1 billion colours.

The 1260 x 2800 pixel resolution ensures sharp visuals, and Corning Gorilla Glass protects the screen. The device is also dust-protected and water-resistant.

Performance

The Dimensity 8350 replaces last year’s Dimensity 8200, bringing improved efficiency and power. The phone runs Android 15 with Tecno’s HIOS 15 skin and packs 12GB of RAM with 256GB of internal storage.

However, there’s no microSD card slot, so you are stuck with the storage variant you purchase.

Cameras

Now, Tecno is taking portrait photography up a notch.

The Camon 40 Premier sports a triple 50MP camera setup:

  • 50MP wide lens (with OIS) for sharp and stable shots
  • 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom
  • 50MP ultrawide sensor

For selfies, a 50MP front camera capable of 4K video recording.

Battery

Powering the Camon 40 Premier is is a 5100mAh battery with 70W fast charging, guaranteeing a full charge in under 45 minutes.

Display

The Camon 40 Pro boasts a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth scrolling and vibrant visuals.

Under the hood, it runs on the MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate chipset, paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. However, the 5G version features the Dimensity 7300. The phone ships with Android 15 and Tecno’s HIOS 15 skin on top.

Unlike the standard Camon 40, the Pro model ditches the headphone jack, pushing users towards wireless audio options.

Cameras

The 50MP front camera makes the Camon 40 Pro a solid choice for selfie lovers, delivering sharper and more detailed front-facing shots.

At the rear, the device features a 50MP primary sensor and an 8MP ultrawide lens.

Camon 40

The Camon 40 features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1080 x 2436 resolution.

Design-wise, Tecno has switched things up. This year the Camon 40 features a vertical triple-layer camera layout, leaving the circular design for the Camon 40 Premier.

Performance & Software

Under the hood, the device is powered by the Mediatek Helio G100 Ultimate. While the upgrade isn’t massive comapared to the Camon 30, it still delivers decent performance for budget gaming. The Camon 40 runs Android 15 with HIOS 15, offering a fresh software experience.

Cameras

For a budget device, the Camon 40 packs some solid camera hardware:

  • 50MP primary sensor (with PDAF & OIS) for sharper, more stable shots.
  • 8MP ultrawide lens for capturing more in a single frame.
  • On the front, a 32MP selfie camera ensures high-quality shots and video calls.

Battery & Other Features

Powering the Camon 40 is a 5200mAh battery with 45W fast charging—a solid combo for all-day use.

The phone comes in Emerald Lake Green, Galaxy Black, Glacier White, and Emerald Glow Green.

Camon 40 Series Prices

The Camon 40 series as a whole, offers a great display, a powerful cameras, and fast charging. However, the lack of a headphone jack might be a deal-breaker for some.

Pricing details are still under wraps, however, these are the expected ranges for the Ghanaian market

  • Camon 40 – GHS 3500
  • Camon 40 Pro – GHS 4300
  • Camon 40 Premier – GHS 6800
