TECNO’s Phantom X Series is dead

Tecno introduced the Phantom X series as a premium flagship lineup, aimed at delivering high-end features at an affordable price.

However, with no new model released since the Phantom X2 series and no official announcements, it raises the question—has Tecno quietly discontinued the Phantom X series?

When the first Phantom X launched in 2021, it stood out with a curved AMOLED display, a 50MP primary camera, and an elegant design.

Tecno followed up with the Phantom X2 and X2 Pro in 2023. These devices incorporated flagship-level specs such as the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset and an industry-first retractable portrait camera.

Despite these innovations, the series failed to gain popularity in markets dominated by major competitors such as Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus.

Silent Exit

After the Phantom X2 series, many expected TECNO to launch a Phantom X3 in late 2023 or early 2024. Yet, there have been no official confirmations, leading to speculation that the Phantom X series has been shelved.

The lack of any promotional activity suggests that TECNO may have reconsidered its premium smartphone strategy.

Competition from Camon Series

Another reason for the possible discontinuation is the increasing overlap between the Phantom X series and Tecno’s Camon lineup.

The Camon series, known for its camera-centric features, has received frequent upgrades and now offers high-end specs at a lower price point.

With devices like the Camon 20 Premier which features powerful cameras and strong performance, the Phantom X’s premium positioning may have become redundant.

Flagship Challenges

Even with its leading features, Tecno has not yet made a significant impact on the premium European and North American markets.

The Phantom X series lacked the marketing and loyal customer base needed to compete with established brands.

Will There Be a Phantom X3?

As of now, all signs point to Tecno shifting its focus away from the Phantom X series. The brand appears to be prioritizing its Camon and Spark series, which perform well in emerging markets.

Unless Tecno surprises us with an unexpected announcement, the Phantom X series may already be a thing of the past.

Tecno’s silence on the Phantom X series could suggests that the company may have shifted its focus to other products.
