THE OCTOBER RUSH

Say Bye-Bye to your high school guys, and hello to the ‘uni boys’. As a female fresher, eligible ‘fresh boys’ seem to be everywhere, and guess what? They’re all looking at you. The attention can be fun, but when it comes down to it, the dating game in university is one that you’ll learn a lot about as time goes on—you might not be exactly a pro right now.

Attention from continuing students is surely a ‘plus’ in any freshers’ books, because they’re well accustomed to the university’s in and outs. They know ‘what’s up’, and it can be quite nice to have a handsome-looking, older guy show you around, visit you, buy you presents and take you on dates. That said, don’t feel the need to engage in any serious relationships yet with him purely because he’s “older and handsome…” because it may just turn out to be the kind that ends in tears

He’s graduating sooner than you are, and he knows it.

DON’T get too attached since most of them usually aren’t in it for the long haul when they seek out a female fresher that they’d like to ‘go out’ with. Just because he’s lent you a bunch of attention one night, don’t assume that he’ll be chasing after you for the rest of the semester.

Sex Pressure

No, I can’t be certain that what all guys are looking for is sex, but that’s definitely a part of the university world. All some want to do is ‘wuremu‘ . He might want it and he might even ask for it, but if you’re uncomfortable, it’s not up to you to give it to him. Know your boundaries and ask him—whether you know him well or not—to respect your boundaries. If he doesn’t, walk away. If he forces, report anyway

On top of it all, I strongly advise that you make meaningful connections and associations on campus. After all, one bad fruit shouldn’t spoil the whole bunch, should it?
