YouTube ‘In Trouble’ for Undisclosed AI Edits on Shorts

YouTube is in the news for the wrong reasons. Creators have accused the video platform of using AI to change content uploaded to Shorts without prior disclosure.

According to some creators, the modifications undermine their art and make it harder to tell authentic from AI works.

The controversy was sparked by creators spotting changes in their clips after uploading them. Videos looked crisper and unnatural compared to the original.

YouTube maintains that the changes are not the result of generative AI but rather traditional machine learning technology.

According to YouTube, they are testing automated tools designed to unblur, denoise, and improve the clarity of Shorts. Certain YouTubers, for example Rick Beato, noticed visible changes after the posting that differed from the original.

The number of affected creators is unknown, and Youtube has made no indication that it will halt the feature’s rollout.

What This Means for Creators

It is possible that creators may experience a loss of creative control if YouTube continues to implement these alterations.
